A special message to KUCR staff, listeners and fans:
It is with sincere regret and sadness that I inform you of the passing of popular former KUCR DJ and radio personality Curtis “Teddy Bear” Wofford. Teddy passed away last week on March 18th at Riverside Community Hospital, following an illness. He was a member of our broadcast family that made KUCR’s “Soul on Sunday” so popular in the Riverside area during his longtime involvement in the station, from the early ’80s to the mid-’90s. Teddy was a respected community volunteer at KUCR. He made a real contribution as a broadcaster over the airwaves on KUCR, as program host, producer, music coordinator, MC and Program Director. He knew the music well and brought it to the community with an unforgettable personality and style. He was a good and gifted man who was a joy to know and to work with. His passing is a real loss, deeply felt. We remember him now for the gift of his great talent and warm personality, with deep appreciation and gratitude. All condolences to his surviving family members.
With respect and deep sadness,
Louis Vandenberg
KUCR Director and General Manager

For those of you unfamiliar with the song, you really need to get out from under that rock you’ve been living under for the past couple of decades. I’ll let it slide this time and let you know, it’s the classic song, ” don’t let me down”, by none other than The Beatles. Looks pretty intimate doesn’t it? You could probably give Jesse a high five if you felt like it.
This is just a taste of what’s to come next quarter as we continue to bring you shows at the Barn. We’ve got some good things coming up that you definitely won’t want to miss. Can’t tell you too much about it now though, but expect some more info as we get closer to the start of the Spring Quarter Barn series, presented by KUCR and hosted at The Barn (thanks, Housing!). I can tell you this much however, next quarter’s barn series will kick off April 9th. Same day and time, Wednesdays from 6-9 for those of you just tuning in, so bring yourself and we’ll bring the music. To stay up to speed, look for us on facebook, or check out the unofficial KUCR myspace.
Good Luck on finals everyone!

Looking for something awesome (and free) to do on Wednesdays this quarter? Look no further than ASPB’s Winter Concert Series at the Barn from 7-9 p.m. Here’s a quick look at the lineup for this quarter. We’ll do a post on each act pretty soon, but for now, here’s a quick overview:
Jan. 23 - Daedelus with as-yet unnanounced opener (a KUCR collaboration!)
Jan. 30 - Aima (LGBTRC sponsored)
Feb. 6 - Mulatto w/ spoken word artists (sponsored by REACH and WRC)
Feb. 13 - The Expanders w/Redbeef and Juice (sponsored by ASP)
Feb. 20 - Zion I and Mistah Fab (Homecoming show)
Feb. 27 - Poetry Slam
March lineup TBD (but good things are in the works, trust us!)
Here’s the details:
Showtimes: 7-9 pm each Wednesday
Venue: The Barn, right here on UCR’s campus
Price: Free! (parking not included)
Capacity at these shows is limited, so show up early. The first show of the season (Matt Costa) was totally packed and people had to wait outside. You don’t want to be that person, trust me.
Okay, I’m excited about the Daedelus jumpoff.

It’s a good thing that we’re all friendly at KUCR, because things can get pretty cramped over here. Records, CDs, equipment, people all over the place. So some time ago, our fearless leader general manager acquired an extra shed with in the hopes of alleviating some of crowding.
Apparently this wasn’t a good idea. Here’s what we found on the morning of the 25th of December:

90+ mph winds came through, lifted the shed on some Wizard of Oz and moved the shell itself a good 15-20 yards away from its original location.

I think it’s actually still there now.
