Incrimination Movie Screening Thursday

First off, let me say - wow.

Okay, now on with the description:

Wanna add a little adrenaline to your Thursday evening at 8:30pm? Join us for a night of action and adventure as the Film & Photography Society at UCR showcases it’s latest epic action-thriller, Incrimination, in the UNLH. This is a student production filmed on a $700 budget, and features a cast and crew of over 60-70 people, police cars in an authentic bus yard film set, and an actual SWAT team (no word yet on how they pulled that last one off).

But enough talk - dig the trailer:

Seriously, this looks bananas. I can’t even count how many guns I saw in that trailer, this is clearly going to be awesome. The only thing that they need for it to be a real Hollywood film now is for the Black dude to die in the first five minutes.

Some special behind-the-scenes commentary from the director:

All jokes aside, this is really inspiring. Hopefully this will be the first of many brilliant student films to come out of UCR’s talented and diverse student body - don’t miss this chance to say you met these soon-to-be-famous actors and producers before they got big!

The Specifics:
Date: Thursday, January 31, 2008
Time: 8:30pm - 10:00pm
Location: UCR Campus, University Lecutre Hall (UNLH) 1000
Price: This is a free event!

Daedelus at the Barn this Wednesday!

The rumors are true - KUCR is proud to announce one of the most exciting hip-hop / experimental instrumentalists LA has to offer - Daedelus in concert this Wednesday, 23rd January at 7 PM at the Barn, for free, as part of the ASPB Winter Concert series.

Despite the fact that he was formally trained on double bass and bass clarinet (and also played the guitar and accordion, among other things) and studied jazz at USC, Daedelus ended up going the hip-hop / electronica route, working with artists such as MF Doom, Madlib, Pigeon John, and others - and releasing albums on Plug Research and the notorious Warp. As if that weren’t enough, he gets heavy, heavy rotation at KUCR!

For those of you who can’t wait for Wednesday, here’s a hot-off-the-Stones-Throw-presses video featuring MF Doom on vocals and Daedelus on beats and accordion:

And the brilliant “Fairweather Friends” video, which incidentally made Ryan’s Best of 2007 list:

Once again, the show:
Location - at the UC Riverside Barn
Date - Wednesday, 23rd January
Time - Doors at 6 pm, show at 7. Get there early - you’ve been warned!

Nature 1, KUCR 0

It’s a good thing that we’re all friendly at KUCR, because things can get pretty cramped over here. Records, CDs, equipment, people all over the place. So some time ago, our fearless leader general manager acquired an extra shed with in the hopes of alleviating some of crowding.

Apparently this wasn’t a good idea. Here’s what we found on the morning of the 25th of December:
blown away shed
90+ mph winds came through, lifted the shed on some Wizard of Oz and moved the shell itself a good 15-20 yards away from its original location.
blown away shed
I think it’s actually still there now.

Ryan Says - Erykah Badu - Honey

Ryan Says - Erykah Badu - Honey
"I’ve always thought Erykah Badu looked like a really cool human being, but I never really liked her music. I’ve always wanted to, though, because I want to associate cool sounding music with a cool looking person. I kind of like this single, but I’m not sure I can trust myself. Maybe my urge to like Erykah Badu has overridden my critical faculties. Somebody else decide."

dex says - Trust your instincts, Ryan. This one is good.

Sultans of Satire on Sunday!

This Sunday, December 2nd, KUCR and the Associated Students will sponsor the Sultans of Satire: Middle Eastern Comic Relief at UC Riverside’s University Theatre. The Sultans are Middle Eastern comedians on a mission—peace through laughter. This unique show consists of young American comedians of Arab, Iranian, Jewish, Armenian, Turkish and Greek heritage in uproarious sets of stand-up comedy.

The Sultans had an acclaimed eight-month run at the World Famous Laugh Factory on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip and just sold out 1,200 seats at USC. They now bring their cutting-edge comedy to UC Riverside — American comedians with all these different Middle Eastern backgrounds, each with their own sense of humor, breaking down barriers and getting the message across that everybody really can get along. The comedy is fresh, funny and raucous — and definitely for a college-age and up audience. For more information, tickets and comedian videos, visit sultansofsatire.com or levantinecenter.org.

The Details:
