KUCR 88.3fm Comedy Apocalypse 10 brings Four Acclaimed Comics to UC Riverside’s Barn
Riverside, CA — KUCR 88.3fm continues its series of cutting-edge “Comedy Apocalypse” shows with a special “Tenth Apocalypse,” which celebrates the series by featuring three critically acclaimed audience favorites from previous shows, Nate Bargatze, Shane Mauss and Brent Weinbach. In addition and new to the series is Ron Funches, named #1 Comic to Watch 2013 by the LA Weekly, in his regional debut. The comedy show, always held near the end of UCR’s academic quarter, is scheduled for Wednesday, February 19th, 8:30pm, at UC Riverside’s Barn.
Nate Bargatze, topping the bill, has had four late night appearances on Conan. He starred in his own Comedy Central Presents and recently appeared twice on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. He is featured in an episode of Mark Maron’s “Maron” on IFC. Bargatze has also been on CMT’s “Comedy Stage”, has written for Spike TV”s Video Game Awards, and has been featured at the Montreal Comedy Festival, Bonnaroo, and many more. Nate has performed for the troops in Iraq five times, and was named as one of Esquire’s Best New Comedians of 2012, a “Comedian to Watch” in Rolling Stone and in Paste Magazine, and as one of the 10 Comedians Who Deserve Their Own TV Show on CoolMaterial.com. In September of 2012 Nate’s released his comedy album, Yelled at by a Clown, which reached #4 on the iTunes comedy charts, #2 on Amazon, and #10 on Billboard.
Ron Funches is a stand-up comic with a unique delivery and disarming, lovable demeanor. Most recently Ron was featured as LA Weekly’s Number One Comic to Watch in 2013 and ESQUIRE Magazine’s Best New Comedians List. He has performed live on TBS’s CONAN O’BRIEN SHOW, currently stars as “Roland” in Disney XD’s Crash & Bernstein, and is a writer and has appeared on The Kroll Show on Comedy Central. Ron has also appeared on IFC’s PORTLANDIA. This pilot season Ron landed the series regular role of ‘Shelly’ in Bill Lawrence and Jeff Ingold’s pilot for NBC entitled UNDATEABLE.
Brent Weinbach is a stand-up comedian, writer and actor, who began his career in the underground San Francisco scene. Since then, he has appeared on Conan, Lopez Tonight, Comedy Central, toured with the Comedians of Comedy and performed at the Coachella Festival. Weinbach’s background, which is Jewish/Filipino, has given him a somewhat unique perspective. He has an original experimental style done in a hilarious abstract deadpan delivery. Brent was a winner of the Andy Kaufman Award at the HBO Comedy Festival, in recognition of innovation in stand-up comedy. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, he was formerly a Professional Jazz Pianist and Substitute Teacher. His first CD, inspired by radio monologist Joe Frank, was called “Tales from the Brown Side”. His second CD, released in September 2009, is called “The Night Shift” and features a blend of live recorded comedy, studio recordings, and original musical compositions. Critics on Weinbach: “scary, hilarious and weird in the best way” (Time Out NY), “disturbingly brilliant” (LA Weekly), “a name to watch” (New York Magazine), “Weinbach’s comedy is about poaching characters from real life and inhabiting them that you forget who you’re watching onstage” (East Bay Express). Brent’s “Gangster Party Line” comedy video is a on-line viral sensation.
Shane Mauss is originally from La Crosse, WI, and moved to Boston in 2004 to pursue his childhood dream of becoming a standup comedian. In less than three years of performing, Shane was awarded Best Standup Comic at HBO’s US Comedy Arts Festival in 2007. Shane’s TV credits include five appearances on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, Showtime’s Comics Without Borders, two appearances on BBC’s The World Stands Up, and in what is easily his strangest television appearance to date: Playboy TV’s Night Calls. Shane has been in several comedy festivals around the world including The Montreal Just For Laughs Festival, The Comedy Central South Beach Comedy Festival, The Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in Kilkenny, Ireland, The Sydney Comedy Festival, and The Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival. Most recently, Shane has started a podcast with his girlfriend and fellow comic, April Macie, entitled Double Date.
