Avoiding Student Job Fraud Scams (UCR Police Dept. Public Service Announcement)

Job fraud scams are increasingly common at colleges and universities, with students losing thousands of dollars, in some cases. UC Riverside is no exception. In this Public Service Announcement, Interim UCR Police Chief John Freese provides information to detect and avoid “job fraud scams.” Students need to be cautious when responding to job offers, via unsolicited email, often falsified to look as if they are coming from the university. UCR would never send such an email. No job should require you to expend your own money. The promised “reimbursement” never comes. Freese advises: “when in doubt, check it out.” UCR emails come from the official “UCR.edu” domain, not a random gmail account. But, “spoofed” UCR-looking email addresses can look real and sometimes use the UCR logo, or an image from UCR. Caution, thought and examination are warranted as you consider a likely fraudulent emailed offer. If you suspect a scam, or have been the victim of one, call the UCR Police at (951) 827-5222. “Be aware and stay safe at UCR.” PSA produced by KUCR in cooperation with UCR Police Department, with assistance from the UCR Career Center.

Congratulations to our Music Directors Zaina and Chiamaka for being the NACC (The North American College and Community Radio Chart) November MDs of the Month! They are an integral part of the KUCR team who coordinates new additions to the music library, recognizes exceptional artists, among other things. We are honored to see their work being recognized by NACC, and we are excited to see this year continue to unfold.
