Hellfyre Club arrives at the UCR Barn this WED 2-12-14

    homepage_large.1b03da54

“Cali rapper Nocando’s Hellfyre Club is an assemblage of West Coast art rap luminaries connected to Project Blowed, a long-running hip hop workshop that served as a proving ground for90s and aughts L.A. aesthetes from Freestyle Fellowship and Abstract Rude to Pigeon John. Nocando’s Hellfyre squad includes long time Project Blowed affiliate Busdriver, Midwest emigre Open Mike Eagle, and newcomer milo alongside a cadre of MCs and producers from in and around Blowed and L.A.’s beat scene. They’ve connected for Dorner vs. Tookie, the latest in a series of collaborative mixtapes showcasing a groupwide penchant for tongue-in-cheek self-flagellation and confessional storytelling that quite often metes out both at once” – pitchfork.com

School is in Session and so is the Barn!

School starts in about two days from now and most of you are dreading the return to class, exams, and all nighters. However, don’t fret as KUCR and ASPB have you covered with some weekly entertainment as the Barn Concert Series makes its return this fall quarter. The concert series will continue to take place Wednesday nights, however, the new hours of operation for shows will now be 7:30-11:30.

The series itself kicks off next week, on Wednesday October 1st with a very big show. Lined up for the evening is Dengue Fever. This critically acclaimed group combines psychedelic rock, surf, dance and pop influences with the exotic rhythmic grooves and vocal seductions of Asia.  The infectious result has dazzled audiences at major festivals worldwide. You may have seen Dengue Fever if you were at this year’s street scene festival. The band itself is a touring machine, as they plan on trekking the globe from now until the end of the year. So definitely take this chance to see the band play in your very own back yard.

We have a a very diverse line up set for the quarter, as well as the rest of the year with something for everyone. So definitely check back here each week with updates about more info about each weeks line up and information about the bands.

Before I leave you, I’ll give you a sneak peak of what we have cooked up for October 8th.

So be on the look out for more information regarding the rest of the quarter’s line up next week. Also, if you would like to help out with the barn series contact Amanda Schwartz at amandaschwartzaspb@yahoo.com
